XPTUSD
MetalsPlatinum / US Dollar
XPTUSD is the international spot platinum price quoted in US dollars (London spot convention). Platinum carries both precious- and industrial-metal properties: it hedges inflation and risk while serving as a critical input for automotive catalytic converters (especially diesel), jewelry and chemicals; mine supply is highly concentrated in South Africa (roughly 70% of global output), so supply disruptions often amplify price moves. Its futures benchmark is NYMEX Platinum (ticker PL) on the CME Globex platform with near-24-hour sessions: opening Sunday 18:00 and closing Friday 17:00 Eastern Time, with a daily 17:00–18:00 ET maintenance break; closed on weekends. Prices are driven by the US dollar index, real rates, automotive demand and South African supply conditions.
