XPDUSD is the international spot palladium price quoted in US dollars (London spot convention). The most industrial of the platinum-group metals, roughly 80% of palladium demand comes from gasoline automotive catalytic converters (complementing platinum's diesel role); supply is concentrated in Russia (Norilsk) and South Africa, so supply disruptions and substitution effects (platinum-palladium swapping) make prices extremely volatile — palladium has repeatedly traded above gold. Its futures benchmark is NYMEX Palladium (ticker PA, 100 ozt/contract) on CME Globex with near-24-hour sessions: opening Sunday 18:00 and closing Friday 17:00 Eastern Time, with a daily 17:00–18:00 ET maintenance break; closed on weekends.
