JP225 tracks the Nikkei 225, Japan's flagship equity index of 225 TSE prime-listed blue chips, price-weighted, including heavyweights such as Fast Retailing, Toyota and Sony. The index has several derivatives venues: yen-denominated futures on Osaka Exchange (OSE), Singapore Exchange futures, and CME's Nikkei/Yen futures (ticker NIY, index point × 500 JPY, cash-settled; officially trading 17:00 the prior trading day to 16:00 Central Time, consistent with the Globex index convention). The Nikkei is highly correlated with the yen exchange rate (a weaker yen typically lifts exporters) and driven by US–Japan rate differentials, global risk appetite and geopolitics.
