It is not a single exchange but an over-the-counter (OTC) market formed by a relay of major global financial centers: Wellington/Sydney in Australasia open first, followed by Tokyo, London and New York in turn, creating a nearly 24-hour continuous trading cycle. In Eastern Time terms the market typically opens Sunday 17:00 and closes Friday 17:00 (closed on weekends), with the highest liquidity during the London–New York overlap.
