MT5 Position Manager: View and Close Positions Anywhere

Camovia Tray Team · 2026-08-23

Some platforms give position management a dedicated home; MT5 spreads it across the terminal instead. There is no panel literally named "position manager" — the toolbox's Trade tab is where the job happens: every open position with symbol, volume, open price and floating P/L, closeable with a right-click. If you never leave the terminal, that covers you. The contrast appears the moment the terminal gets minimized — which is why a second style of manager, the kind that lives in the system tray, exists at all.

1. The native baseline: the toolbox's Trade tab

When it fits: you are already at the terminal and want a clear overview of what is open — the Trade tab is the native view. It shows your positions with symbol, direction, volume, open price, current price and the current result, and you can open it at any time from the View menu → Toolbox, per the MetaTrader 5 user guide and broker toolbox explainers.

What it costs: the terminal must stay open and visible. The overview disappears once the window is minimized, closing is one position at a time, and the only native bulk action is the Bulk Operations submenu buried in the Trade tab's right-click menu (build 3260 and later), as this broker guide shows.

2. One Click Trading: faster closings while you are at the screen

When it fits: active sessions where you close frequently and want the minimum number of clicks. MetaTrader 5 ships a built-in One Click Trading mode that puts instant close (and manage) buttons directly in the trading interface, as documented in the official MetaTrader 5 Help.

What it costs: the mode must be enabled in terminal settings, the terminal must stay in the foreground, and the buttons add speed without an overview — you see positions one at a time, not the whole portfolio.

3. Away from the terminal: Camovia Tray as an always-on MT5 position manager

When it fits: multi-window workflows — charts in the terminal, other work in the browser, position checks in between. Camovia Tray keeps MT5 in the system tray and gives you both without switching windows: hover the tray icon for live quotes, or open the floating order page to see your open positions at a glance. Closing is explicit — click a position card, click Close, then Confirm — so a single accidental click cannot flatten a trade. On MT5 the app reads the terminal directly with no EA; on MT4 it requires a one-time CamoviaBridge EA setup (about 30 seconds) and AutoTrading (Ctrl+E) enabled before a close. Quotes and position data are read 100% from the local terminal — nothing is uploaded.

What it costs: it is a Windows 10/11 desktop companion, not a replacement for the terminal itself. Position closure is one position at a time, and it deliberately does not offer batch actions (no mass close-all, no bulk TP/SL editing) — what it manages is the overview and the single-position close. For bulk behaviors, see section 4.

4. The third-party route: MQL5 Market position manager utilities

When it fits: you genuinely need batch behavior with more nuance than the Bulk Operations menu — grouped rules, per-symbol logic, or bulk-editing take-profit/stop-loss levels across selected positions. This gap is why the MQL5 Market is full of "position manager" utilities and EAs.

What it costs: most are paid, and one of them raises complexity — the utility must be attached to a chart and stay running, it must be configured for your broker's execution mode, and it may behave differently across brokers. For a trader who closes a handful of positions by hand, this is usually more machinery than the job needs; for many-position traders, it can still pay off.

Putting it together

These options are not competitors — they layer. Keep the Trade tab as the native baseline for the moments you are at the terminal. Enable One Click Trading when you are in an active session and closing repeatedly. Add Camovia Tray for when you're elsewhere: hover for quotes, open the order page for the full current picture, close what needs closing with two deliberate taps — with all data staying on your computer (MT5 needs no EA; MT4's one-time CamoviaBridge setup takes about 30 seconds plus AutoTrading via Ctrl+E). If batch operations become a real daily need, a market utility can layer on top — not replace the stack. The MT5 "position manager" is not a single panel — it is whichever combination keeps your open positions visible and closable in your actual workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my quotes and positions uploaded anywhere?

No. Quote and position data is read 100% from your local MT5/MT4 terminal and never leaves your computer. See the privacy policy for details.

Which systems and terminals are supported?

Windows 10 / 11, with MetaTrader 5 or MetaTrader 4 (installed and logged in; MT4 needs the bridge EA attached once).

Is the MT4 bridge EA safe? What do I need to enable?

Yes. The bridge EA (CamoviaBridge) is bundled with the app - it only reads quotes/positions locally and executes close commands; no DLLs, no data uploads. Closing positions requires turning on AutoTrading in the MT4 toolbar.

How much does it cost? Is there a free trial?

Subscription pricing starts at $2.49/month (also $6.99/3 months, $13.49/6 months, $23.99/year), all plans with full features. New users get a 2-day free trial on first activation (once per device and per email), then decide whether to subscribe.
