Gold has both monetary and safe-haven qualities: Fed rate decisions, US nonfarm payrolls, CPI inflation data, the US dollar index and geopolitical risk all move its price significantly. The spot gold market trades nearly 24 hours a day (closed on weekends), with COMEX gold futures (GC) as its futures benchmark.
