MT5 Toolbox Disappeared? 5 Causes, Back in Under a Minute

Camovia Tray Team · 2026-08-23

If the toolbox and toolbars in MetaTrader 5 have suddenly disappeared, the good news is they are rarely gone for good — nearly every case is a layout or settings problem, not a broken installation. A fast way back: right-click a blank spot on the toolbar area and tick the toolbars you need, then re-enable the bottom toolbox panel from the View menu or drag it back into place. In most cases you can restore the whole workspace in under a minute, without reinstalling anything.

Toolbar or toolbox — what actually disappeared?

People use the two words interchangeably — that is often the root of the confusion. In MetaTrader 5 they are different things:

  • Toolbars are the strips of buttons along the top of the terminal, such as the Standard toolbar with chart and order shortcuts.
  • The toolbox is the panel normally docked at the bottom of the terminal, holding the Market Watch, Navigator, Terminal, and Strategy Tester tabs (broker help pages like AXI's toolbox explainer describe this panel).

When someone says "my mt5 toolbox disappeared", the bottom panel is usually the target — but the same recovery tricks fix the top toolbars as well.

Why the MT5 toolbox disappeared: the five usual causes

Based on MetaTrader's official documentation and years of user reports on the MQL5 forum, the usual culprits are:

  1. The toolbox was minimized. It collapses to a thin strip or autohide bar at the terminal's edge — still there, just compressed (see the forum thread "Minimised and undocked toolbox window").
  2. The toolbox was undocked. It turned into a separate floating window, possibly sitting behind other windows or off-screen on a second display ("Toolbox Appearing as a floating window" is a classic report of this).
  3. A toolbar was switched off by accident. While rearranging buttons, a stray right-click on the toolbar area easily unchecks one without anyone noticing.
  4. The profile did not save correctly. The layout is stored in your profile; if it was saved without the toolbox, or settings aren't remembered, toolbars may simply not come back on the next start — a pattern documented in Titan FX's support article and forum reports.
  5. A profile reset or terminal update. Updating MT5 or switching profiles can restore a default layout, which hides custom panels you had enabled.

How to get the toolbox back — step by step

  1. Decide which one is missing. A missing toolbar means the top icon strips; a missing toolbox means the bottom panel. You may need to fix both.
  2. Re-enable toolbars with a right-click. Right-click any empty area of the toolbar (or the menu bar) — a context menu appears to check or uncheck individual toolbars (Standard, Charts, Line Studies, …). This is the officially documented toggle (MetaTrader's toolbar help, also shown in OANDA's MT5 guide).
  3. Re-open panels from the View menu. Open the View menu and check the entries for the toolbox's tabs — Market Watch, Navigator, Terminal, Strategy Tester — plus the Toolbars submenu; tick anything unchecked.
  4. Look for a collapsed strip. If the toolbox is only minimized, find the thin strip or small tab at the bottom edge of the terminal and drag it up to expand the panel.
  5. Re-dock a floating toolbox. If the toolbox is a separate window, grab its title bar and drag it back to the bottom edge of the terminal until it snaps into the docked position. If it seems to have vanished, check your other monitors — a floating toolbox can sit off-screen on another display.
  6. Reset the layout if steps 2–5 don't help. Reset the current profile's window arrangement to defaults — guides such as "How to Reset MT5 to Default Settings" cover this. After the reset, re-enable your toolbars once and save the profile.
  7. Restart and update as a last resort. Close MT5 completely, start it again, and if you are on an old build, update the terminal. Then confirm toolbars are enabled and the profile saves before exiting — "toolbars missing on every startup" is almost always a profile-saving issue.

Common pitfalls

  • Fixing the wrong panel. Toggling the top toolbars won't bring back the bottom toolbox, and vice versa — each is controlled from a different spot (right-click menu for the strips, View menu for the panels).
  • The toolbox isn't deleted, it's off-screen. A floating toolbox can hide behind other windows or on a second monitor while still running, so it looks gone.
  • Restarting without checking the profile. A restart alone won't help if the layout was saved without the toolbox — you have to re-enable it and save the profile again.
  • Mistaking a minimized strip for a removed panel. A thin strip at the bottom edge is the collapsed toolbox, not a panel that was deleted.
  • Unchecking toolbars by accident. While dragging or arranging buttons, a stray right-click can uncheck toolbars invisibly; when something vanishes, check the right-click list first.

Closing advice

Before reinstalling MetaTrader, walk through the checklist above — a disappeared MT5 toolbox is almost always recoverable in a minute. Keep the layout stable by saving your profile, and be careful when dragging toolbars so you don't float the toolbox again. And if you'd rather not open the full terminal just to check prices, a tray tool like Camovia Tray keeps MT5 in your system tray so you can glance at live quotes and manage positions — all data stays on your computer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the MT4 bridge EA safe? What do I need to enable?

Yes. The bridge EA (CamoviaBridge) is bundled with the app - it only reads quotes/positions locally and executes close commands; no DLLs, no data uploads. Closing positions requires turning on AutoTrading in the MT4 toolbar.

How much does it cost? Is there a free trial?

Subscription pricing starts at $2.49/month (also $6.99/3 months, $13.49/6 months, $23.99/year), all plans with full features. New users get a 2-day free trial on first activation (once per device and per email), then decide whether to subscribe.

How do I restore the MT5/MT4 window after hiding it?

Choose "Show MT5/MT4" from the system tray menu and the window returns to its previous position. You can also hover the tray to check quotes and manage positions without opening the terminal.

Can it replace MT5/MT4 for trading?

No - Camovia Tray is a local shortcut tool. You can close positions right from the popup; all trading operations (opening, closing, etc.) are submitted by your local MT5/MT4 terminal to your own broker account. The app does not hold your funds or provide investment advice.
