MT5 Equity Monitor: Track Account Equity in MetaTrader 5

Camovia Tray Team · 2026-08-23

MetaTrader 5 has no feature literally named "equity monitor," but showing your equity is built in. Open the Toolbox (View → Toolbox, or the Toolbox button on the Standard toolbar) and switch to the Trade tab at the bottom of the terminal: the tab lists your positions and orders and displays Balance, Equity, Margin, and Free Margin for the current account in real time. What MT5 does not give you out of the box is active monitoring — there is no native alarm when equity crosses a level. Threshold alerts require a custom MQL5 program or a marketplace utility. And if your real goal is keeping an eye on the positions whose P/L moves your equity every day, a tray companion like Camovia Tray can put each open position's running profit/loss one hover away — with the honest caveat that it shows positions, not account equity.

1. The native snapshot: account fields in the Trade tab

When it fits: any minute you are already at the terminal — before opening a position, after closing one, or whenever you want to see current margin headroom.

How it works: in MT5, the bottom section of the terminal is the Toolbox, opened from the View menu or the Standard toolbar (Admirals, AXI). Inside it, the Trade tab lists open positions and pending orders, and below them shows the account summary: Balance, Equity, Margin, Free Margin — the same layout described in broker guides such as Myforex and Windsor Brokers.

Cost/limits: this is a snapshot, not a monitor. The figures update only while you are looking at them, they carry no history, and nothing warns you when they change. If the terminal is closed or you are busy elsewhere, the numbers are simply out of sight.

2. The retrospective view: Trading Report

When it fits: end-of-day or weekly review, trade journaling, or checking how equity evolved across a period.

How it works: MT5's built-in Trading Report summarizes deals for a chosen period and draws a balance/equity curve you can review after the session.

Cost/limits: it is history, not live monitoring — useful for reviewing what happened, useless for catching a drawdown while it is happening.

3. Built-in Alerts: price alarms, not equity alarms

When it fits: you want an audio or popup notification the moment a trading instrument reaches a level that matters for your risk.

How it works: the Toolbox also holds an Alerts tab for price-based alarms tied to individual symbols. On mobile, the MT5 app's Trade screen shows positions and account equity (official mobile help).

Cost/limits: built-in alerts are anchored to instrument prices, not to account equity — there is no native "warn me when equity drops below $X" rule. That gap is exactly why the MQL5 Market utilities section is full of third-party equity panels and equity-notification tools.

4. A true MT5 equity monitor: custom MQL5 utility or marketplace app

When it fits: prop-firm drawdown rules, daily equity targets, or any rule that says "alert me the moment equity crosses a threshold."

How it works: attach a small MQL5 indicator/script or a marketplace equity monitor to a chart; it watches account equity while the terminal runs and can notify you when a level is hit. Utilities that actually place orders need AutoTrading enabled; monitoring-only panels just need MetaTrader to be running.

Cost/limits: this is the only route to true equity monitoring in MT5, and it has a price: MQL5 knowledge or a small purchase, setup time, and the terminal must stay open with the chart attached. Turn the PC off and the monitor stops too.

5. On the move: the mobile Trade screen

When it fits: you are away from the desktop and want a quick equity check. The MT5 app's Trade screen lists positions/orders and the account's equity (official Android help).

Cost/limits: it is a glance, not a watcher — small screen, and push-style equity alerting depends on what your broker's server and the app support, so treat it as a manual check.

6. Position-level visibility without opening MT5: Camovia Tray

When it fits: you spend your day in other applications and want to check the open positions whose P/L drives your equity — without tabbing into MetaTrader every time.

What it does (and doesn't): Camovia Tray turns MT5/MT4 into a tray tool: hover the tray icon to see live quotes for your watched symbols without opening the terminal; the order page lists open positions with symbol, direction, lots, open price, and current profit/loss at a glance; clicking a position card closes it in two steps — Close → Confirm. MT5 connects directly with no EA required; MT4 needs a one-time bridge EA (CamoviaBridge, about 30 seconds of setup), and before closing positions on MT4 you turn on AutoTrading (Ctrl+E). All quote and position data is read from your local terminal and stays on your computer — nothing is uploaded.

Honest limits: Camovia Tray has no equity or balance display — it is not an equity monitor and should not be described as one. Account totals still live in MT5's Trade tab. The tray tool complements equity monitoring by surfacing the position-level numbers that move equity, so you know when to open the terminal for a proper equity check. Windows 10/11.

Putting them together

These options are not mutually exclusive, and most traders combine them: keep the Trade tab as the daily snapshot, add an equity-alert utility only if you actually manage by thresholds, use the mobile app when away from the desk, and let Camovia Tray cover position-level checks while you work in other programs. Whichever mix you choose, the account equity itself stays in MetaTrader 5 — and if Camovia Tray joins the setup, its quote and position data remains on your own machine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which systems and terminals are supported?

Windows 10 / 11, with MetaTrader 5 or MetaTrader 4 (installed and logged in; MT4 needs the bridge EA attached once).

Is the MT4 bridge EA safe? What do I need to enable?

Yes. The bridge EA (CamoviaBridge) is bundled with the app - it only reads quotes/positions locally and executes close commands; no DLLs, no data uploads. Closing positions requires turning on AutoTrading in the MT4 toolbar.

How much does it cost? Is there a free trial?

Subscription pricing starts at $2.49/month (also $6.99/3 months, $13.49/6 months, $23.99/year), all plans with full features. New users get a 2-day free trial on first activation (once per device and per email), then decide whether to subscribe.

How do I restore the MT5/MT4 window after hiding it?

Choose "Show MT5/MT4" from the system tray menu and the window returns to its previous position. You can also hover the tray to check quotes and manage positions without opening the terminal.
